We are well-aware of the effects the sun can have on our skin, especially if left unprotected! Before the eighties, the detrimental consequences of overexposure to the sun were not taken very seriously by most. Beaches, pools and even back yards across the country would be packed with sun worshippers, slathered in baby oil and iodine, in attempt to achieve the deepest, “healthiest” tan before summer’s end. Fast forward to today. Sure, we still enjoy the sun and the outdoors, but most of us wouldn’t dream of spending even a few hours unprotected—sun block, hats, more clothes, etc. There’s just too much to lose!

The sun is every bit as harsh to your car. And, your car likely spends more time outdoors than you do. The exterior is protected by its wax or polymer shell, but the windshield offers zero protection. (Even tinted windows, although they do filter some, allow a large percentage of radiation to enter the car.) Not only does the windshield not protect interior surfaces, but it actually magnifies incoming sun onto the dash, seats, and door panels—literally baking and drying them. Does this have adverse effects? You bet it does! Vinyl and leather will become brittle, faded, cracked and fissured under the intensity of UV radiation. Just like skin, without protection it will age prematurely and deteriorate. When this happens, no product available can bring it back. The damage is irreversible.

Block out the sun! If it isn’t beating down on your interior, it isn’t causing damage that can’t be undone. Protectants alone do help, but auto sun shades are the one way to obstruct 100% of sun-induced destruction while your car is parked.
