A retired member of the U.S. Air Force set out to design a dashboard cover to reduce the glare and heat damage to the dashboard caused by the intense Southwest sun. He added texture to reduce glare, insulation to reduce heat buildup, and latex backing for shape retention. Today DashMats are still designed in Arizona and built by Covercraft.
